I've been working on this one shock all morning. Made some progress, but am now stuck again. It seems last night's soaking in PB Blaster helped.
1. Lower mounting nut removed: I put a box-end wrench on the nut, then lay down behind the wheel and kicked the wrench with my heel. It moved! From there, it took some effort, but the nut did turn off.
2. Lower mounting bolt removed: Landjet's method worked great. I put a Gearwrench on the nut and a socket between the nut and the wall. Turning the nut pushed the bolt out about a half-inch. From there I put a curved tire iron against the bolt head and levered it out while turning the bolt with a wrench.
3. At the upper mounting point, I had to cut the top of the stem off to remove the locknut. Then the lower nut turned off easily.
Now the shock seems jammed in there. It won't move at either the top or the bottom. How do I get it out from here?
Assuming I finish this today, I'll have to spend tomorrow on the passenger side. Two and a half days just to change a couple of shocks...
