The Forgotten Connection AND voltage regulation Posted by Landjet [Email] (#16) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Landjet) on Sat, 18 Jul 2015 15:45:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The alternator light started to flicker and then solid on. Then, normalized and stayed off. Repeated several times like that and I decided to swap out the voltage regulator.
After the swap, and voltage was restored ie: no illumination on the dash and showing plus 12 volts on the multimeter, but didn't record the amount.
BUT, the most remarkable thing was that the car started to run better with just some bonus volts. The only thing I can think of is that the better VR when installed bumped up the voltage slightly and so the ignition/ fuel injection worked better. That's the only explanation I have as I didn't do anything else than VR replacement.
I guess that the voltage regulator was putting enough voltage back into the battery to keep it up for starting, and just enough to maintain it, but not enough to really satisfy the fuel injection or ignition system for smoother running.
I'll be sure to measure the voltage when I get a chance. Wondering if there is a min voltage that the fuel injection/ignition needs in order to properly operate.
