I was 17 first car .. 84 900 T which I wrenched on.

- I had water int the passenger footwell.. dripping from where the air comes in ... so ratherthen investigating clogged drains.. I taped a funnel the firewall and ran a tube at the trans tunnel... that melted a bit on long trips.. and smelled a bit like plastic when exiting car. .. drove it for probably 5 years and 80000 + miles like that

- I also did front brake job myself and tried to rebuild a front calliper.. driving from new york to pittsburgh... sparks flying at night locked up and was eating through rotor.
LUCKILY - I was 20 miles from dinnis sweeney who I ordered my parts from at the time.. I borrowed my brothers car picked up the parts and had midas put my front brakes on.. solved!

- I tried to install exaust myself.. I did but it rattled after about 1 mile.. toook me 6 months to pay 10 bucks to a guy to weld it in place.

- Had Tranny pulled and resealsed because it was leaking and I needed a master.. to save 700 bucks I declined the recommendation to have needle bearings replaced... at 170K miles.. well.. those bearings rattled adn moaned until I lost 5th gear.

I did many equally amazing and engenuitive things to the car as a kid... those listed above in hindsight were bone - headed.... but hey .. that is what 1st cars are for.
