Relocate to opposite side of engine compartment Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Sat, 23 Apr 2016 09:30:25 In Reply to: so why not move it under back seat? n/m, CBS [Profile/Gallery] , Sat, 23 Apr 2016 08:25:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It's pretty easy to do this as well, but you have to use a different air cleaner and, if a turbo, install a front-mounted intercooler (FMIC)in order to have the space on the driver's side available. I'd already installed the FMIC and put a cone filter in my fender, when I decided to move the battery. I moved the battery largely because the next upgrade was a 3-inch downpipe, and because, even with the heat shield, batteries seemed to have an inordinently short life span on the other side of the engine compartment.
The only downside was that the battery now sits underneath the air intake, so I have to remove the intake to take the battery out. But really, how often is that? I removed the battery mounting rack from the passenger side and reattached it to the opposite side railing using sheet metal screws.
To wire it up, I bought a stock positive junction box (like what sits on the top of the passenger side fender)off FleaBay and installed it on the underside of the radiator support just above the driver's headlight. Then ran thick red wire between the new and old junction boxes, cut the stock positive wires to the needed length and connected it to the new junction box. I fabricated a new main ground, and was done. Took about an hour and a 1/2 to get it done. Battery is still going strong after about 4 years.
