Heat shield between battery and turbo

A couple of years ago, I installed an aluminum shield between the turbo and the battery (this was because the turbo heat flows directly onto the battery and was melting the casing) . When I was getting the car ready for spring (it comes late here in Montreal) I notices that the aluminum had been melted and a large hole is now in the sheet. Rather than do the same thing again, does anyone have a better idea? This is a 1987 convertible with 110,000 kilometers
Thanks
