nuts....some things are just....nuts ! Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Wed, 7 May 2008 00:03:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So please pardon my disorganized ranting here, but I've been ruminating
upon this stuff a while and now my thoughts and my keyboard are coming
together for a few minutes...!
I've had a bunch of 9K's by now, and I do honestly feel they are the
best, most intelligently designed cars I've had, but some of the stuff
they come with is just crazy - plain and simple.
They come from a place with intense winter weather, so I'd expect them
to have bulletproof heating systems in them - good, heavy duty, failure
proof components that would always get you through the very worst snow
or ice storm in relative comfort and good visibility...yeah right.
I saw a couple of things since thinking that that definitely make me go
HMMMMMM ! Like the dinky little blower motor - about the size of one I'd
expect to see powering a dustbuster; or the mechanism that turns the heat
on and off - a little plastic door operated by a mechanism which is also
mostly plastic and prone to wear out and shatter to bits like mine did.
Woof !
Here's a goody for you - the confused and confusing ACC units which no
matter how many times they are calibrated turn the A/C compressor on
as soon as the car is started no matter how cold it is !!! -20, and the
car barely cranks and starts - but the A/C compressor runs up to pressure
before the engine is even warmed up.....WTH is that all about ?
Oh yeah, and the startup sequence - ever notice this...you crank your
starter and the engine starts - but while the battery is still drained
from a long or hard cranking in cold weather - after a few seconds (and
right when the alternator is struggling to replace the battery's charge)
The A/C compressor kicks in and runs, and at the very same time the
rear window heating element and mirror heaters snap on so that the
charging system - already at it's limit is pushed JUST A BIT farther
into doing the impossible - why not just make it simple and put a big,
ugly red button on the dash that, when pushed, creates a massive and
damaging electrical overload so you can just get it over with ??!
Altogether I must say that if there is one system in these otherwise
wonderful cars that makes the best target for disdain it is the ACC.
I think that anyone seriously wanting to prolong the life of a good
car like this might consider adding dash switches to control the A/C
compressor, back window defroster and even the ventilation fan itself.
At the very least, if the car resides in a cooler climate then to me
it seems wisest in the non-A/C times of year to remove the fuse for
that system thereby preventing the useless running of it completely.
Best Wishes,
mark
