You should be able to program the ACC to start in ECON mode, which doesn't run the compressor. See your owner's manual. However, circulating the oil in the compressor is not a bad idea from time to time. Some on this BB have said that that brief running of the compressor on start-up prolongs the life of the compressor. Not sure if that's true, but one thing I do know - the Saab engineers know a lot more about engineering than I do.

If your car is cranking and cranking on cold days, to the point of near depletion of the battery, consider addressing that problem. Once the engine starts, the alternator is providing plenty of current to run headlights, ventilation fan, and rear window defroster, and re-charge your battery, provided you are not just driving a few blocks.

As for the heater, I had an '88 9kt with a broken cabin temperature sensor fan, and it got super hot in that car on the coldest Wisconsin winter days. Ten degrees below zero and I had a window open. Clearly, Saab makes a good heater. If yours is not providing enough heat, consider whether you might have a bad thermostat or a blockage in your heater core. If you're using tap water for your coolant system, and you live in a hard water area, then you could have mineral deposits clogging things up.
