1. I think the issues you raise are real, but on a scale of 1 to 10 for Saab related problems, I think they are a 3.
2. That said, I've had cars with both manual and automatic heating/AC systems, and I'll take the manual systems any day. I especially like the manual system on my '91 9000 base model, and I hate the system on my '94 Aero.
3. The manual 3-zone system on my '03 Chrysler Town and Country is so good, it can freeze you out of the car on low fan, I could kiss it!
