the B202 has a bore of 90mm and a stroke of 78mm. The B234 has a bore of 90mm and a *stroke* of 90mm, thus creating a low RPM torquey square engine. Square means the bore and the stroke are the same. The B202 was stroked, and 2 additional rotating masses (balance shaft) were added, hence the B234 name. Do you have any additional info about the losing pressure during sweeping left turns? If they were using a thin oil like 10W-30 for these races, that (and other factors) would explain that.
