1996 CS running lean and hot Posted by Dave The Ice Age Knave [Email] (#2068) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dave The Ice Age Knave) on Sun, 21 Feb 2021 10:31:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, I have tried searching the forum but to no narrowly defined avail.
The Swedish Patient is a 1999 CS about 200,000km operated by a long time enthusiast. It is apparently running lean. Spark plugs are white and a borescope shows effect of high heat inside the cylinders. Long time owner, just happened recently.
Please accept the following facts about the Saab scene:
New O2 sensors. They are showing good results.
Swapped good AMM from another owned 9000 that is working well. No change
New NGK iridium plugs gapped to 1.1mm. Had same iridiums installed when running well.
New cat replaced original cat that was running cold.
All vacuum lines connected and in good shape everywhere. Not sure sure if any vaccum one way valves tested.
New proactive fuel pump
New fuel pressure regulator
Newer DI and swap tried too.
Fuel lines look good
Newer water pump. Engine temperature is not showing hot but
Older TB. Original ECU.
Inlet air temp and coolant temp sensors changed with new parts. No change.
Turbo system seems to be working fine.
No DTC's or pending codes
Air intake no obstructions.
Not related to type of fuel. Different gas from different stations burned through.
All new parts were replaced over about a year to see if any made a difference but to no avail.
Vehicle is running fine. Starts normally, idles well. Runs normally. But plugs and boroscope say running very lean. Concerned about engine and cat damage if more km added. km over past year has been low just part of ongoing search for root cause.
Any suggestions appreciated.
