I have a 2001 9-3 5 speed. I put Vredestein 16" Wintrac snow tires on for the winter (changing them today...threat of snow tonight and Tuesday). With the snow tires, traction control, ABS, and manual trans I rarely have a problem. However, I have had an issue with deep snows (>6-8") when driving down unplowed roads. The front end gets light and lifted up by the snow with all of the plastic underneath the front end, thus I tend to lose traction. I have had a few occasions where I thought I was going to get stuck on top of half a foot of snow. Fortunately it never happened.
I'm pleased with the car in the snow, especially with the Vredesteins.
