I replaced the tensioner idler pulley and serp belt this afternoon. Fortunately I was able to find a pulley at NAPA for $14, so it wasn't painful from a cost standpoint. Unfortunately, that was not the problem.
I finally isolated the problem to the A/C compressor. Apparently the compressor is siezed. After starting the engine, as soon as the A/C clutch engages, the squealing starts. At least the car can be driven until spring in the "Econ" mode which will disable the clutch actuation. Perhaps I'll disconnect the clutch wiring connector for safety's sake.
I can buy a new compressor from ECS tuning for about $350. I have a friend who has the equipment and is an experienced A/C technician. Any thoughts about this being a DIY job?
