amount of "energy". Premium (i.e., higher octane) is a measure of of anti-knock capability. Most cars are optimize for a range of octane. However, if you running on higher octane the engine will produce more power than running regular since the engine CPU will not be retarding timing to reduce knock. (You not producing more just what the mfg specified in the book). You are effectively running at higher compression ratio. Higher CR means higher operating engine efficency. If you not looking for those extra "horses" lower octane specified by mfg is fine. So you should see so slightly better milage wil higher octane to a point. Properly inflated tires would probably produce better results
