So I spent the morning perusing TireRack and was prepared to buy a set of Dunlop 5000 SP sport A2 HR rated at $89 each, size 205-55-16 to fit a set of 16 Aero inch wheels on my 97 9000CS. However the reviews section left me confused; inconsistent complaints about wear, noise and wet traction. The extreme pros vs extreme cons in the reviews made you think you were reviewing two different brands.
I then scanned other makes/reviews (I'm tring to avoid my traditional Michelin MXV 4s, Chiraq Attack notwithstanding, they are just too expensive) and tried to find reviews with my sized car, driving style (fast highway with a preference for quite ride and good wet/light snow get-me-home traction) and geographic similarity (NYC area). The best tire for the money and having the most consistent reviews was the ContiExtremeContact rated VR and only $72; the lesser rated CH95 was only $60, but had some comments about hard compound/long wearing aspects inhibiting traction.
Yoko Avid V4s VR rated were about the same price but had inconsistent reviews from state to state or car to car.
Anyone using these tires? Do you recommend them? I'll be getting them this weekend.
Thanks
