as a kitchen designer.

Most folks who have never stained granite, etc. I say - they don't really cook, or are obsessively clean. Having been doing it for over 10 years, I get countless calls on how to get out stains. Popular? definately. Unfortunately, it is also a natural resource, so I predict prices will begin climbing in the near future. Thermal shock is a concern, and the 1 year maintenance deal (not that its hard, though)

I usually sell corian to family members and friends. Repairable, seamless, and can be (for those concerned) truly sanitized. I have a lot of Jewish clients, who only use Corian, since in effect the top can be buffed with a scotchbrite pad as part of the preparation for passover. The only thing that you cannot get on Corian is Acetone (nail polish remover) it blurs the finish. You can also get beautiful
coved splashes, integrated sinks, etc.

Quartz tops - primarily advertised as Zodiaq (DuPont) and Silestone (Cosentino/Wilsonart), are beautiful, durable, do not stain. but they are not seamless, not can an integrated sink be used. About 10-20% more than granite. It is, however warranted for 10 years, like Corian. Granite has no warranty, BTW.

We did our kitchen some years ago, did a full cutom, all wood cabinet and laminate tops - we bought the best cabinets around - and wil be doing Corian the fall.
