1. Don't worry if you don't speak Dutch. They speak English, since it is one of the compulsary foreign languages at school.
2. There are now around 600 coffee shops. But note that these shops DO NOT sell alcohol.
3. When purchasing "take-aways" from the coffee shop, it is best to make sure that you
a: don't show off a wallet with loads of money and credit cards. You'll be koshed outside otherwise, and robbed. So have some change in a shirt pocket or so. People don't have to see your wallet then.
b: buy a bigger quantity, than a smaller (say U$10) one. That is because these guys use a BIG container and BIG scale to weigh the goods in. The smaller quantity purchase offers a larger weighing error.
4. Most palces are safe, since nobody wants tourism to get a bad name from robbed tourists.
5. But if you visit any of "the girls", note that they are also good in ripping you off. If you have a lot of money, they'll offer you the most expensive service. And I have known cases where they have searched people's pockets to find out how much you have on you. On a seperate advise, take the 15 minutes trip in each "booth", and do a few rounds. I tried 5 "services" within a 3 hour spell that resulted in a number of "colour and country of orrigin" changes...
By the way, rice paper is the best for the roll-ups...
