This brings back memories...I wanted to study aero eng. in high school and had even considered RPI! Their financial aid package consisted of $400 plus a loan that was greater than my family's income that year. I went to Northeastern on a scholarship instead, lasted 3 months as an engineer, and did a double major in physics and philosophy :-)
Boston University has an aerospace engineering program, as do MIT and WPI. One option would be to major in mechanical or electrical engineering (or even physics) and then get a master's in aerospace engineering if you go to a school without that specific degree. This is what I had planned to do before discovering I am not an engineer...
And besides, the weather anywhere else is better than Troy, NY :)
