Hi board,
I'm hoping you can give me some advice.
I bought my first car, a 1993 Aero two years ago for $8000 with a new exhaust and brake pads. It had 113,000 miles, manual transmission, very clean. I bought it from a friend of my family, and I love the power, handling, hatch, comfort, coolness, safety--I really love the car.

Since I bought it, I've done the following: all motor mounts, blower motor, blower motor controller, heater core, rear calipers, DI cassette, fuel pump, oxygen sensor, check valve and some other related valve, serpentine belt, pullys AND tensioner, got new front summer tires, 4 new snow tires, shifter joint assembly, and throttle body. This car is a major expense for me every time it is in the shop. A MAJOR expense.

My longterm boyfriend is moving to my city after being a year apart, and we've decided we don't want/need 2 cars between us. He has a lot of experience (and spare parts for) working on Volvo 740s and can fix most stuff on them. He has suggested that I sell the Saab and we buy a early 90s 740 turbo wagon together. I figure I can sell the 9000 for maybe $6500 and buy a Volvo for maybe $2500. That puts a big chunk of change in my pocket. I can deal with giving up the glorious luxo-sportiness of my beloved Aero, and this plan seems to make sense for us.

My only reservation is that I feel like I've done just about every repair there is to do on my 9000. I mean, I look at lists people have compiled of all of the common failures on a 9000 with my mileage, and I've done them all. Is it stupid to sell it at this point, when it has all of these new parts in it? Or am I just looking at more of the same old routine: every 6 months I take it in to my independent Saab mechanic to diagnose some new problem, and get back the report that it needs $600+ in parts and labor?

This car, as many of you know, can be a bit of a money pit. But part of me thinks that maybe I've fixed so many things that there is nothing left to go wrong. Am I kidding myself?

I welcome any and all opinions.
Thanks!!!
Annie
