If so ABSOLUTELY keep the Aero. My family has had both over the years (not an AERO :( ) and the 9000 was always more reliable and what I personally learned to drive on (enjoyed it in CS form more than the volvo). I can also say that Volvos are more tedious to work on relative to the 9000. If you have his willingness to maintain and you combine this with less expensive internet parts suppliers(sponsors like Eeuro) you will be in far better shape overall than with an unknown.

That 6000$ you've set yourself aside may end up buying an awful lot of nice new Volvo parts (depending on your bf's spare collection). Your BF will learn to love the Aero (show him http://www.kyankton.net or the performance bb!)

$4000+/- is well worth reliable transportation for two over the life that's left in the Aero. Nevermind all the enjoyment. Nevermind that it is one of the best European Sport Sedans of all time.
