Well... as you say, once you have invested into making something solid, you can then reap the benefits of it. I personally think that SAABs are one of the most intuitive cars I have ever worked on. Most times I don't need a manual to fix simple things around the car because they just make sense when looking at them. So...I would think that after learning how to fix Volvo's it would be an easy switch to SAABs. Also....buying a new "money pit" wouldn't make as much sense. A Volvo is likely to cost just as much, if not more, to fix than your SAAB. And who's to say you wouldn't have to do all those repairs again in an older car.
I would work it out and try keeping you SAAB for awhile...
