My father has had a history of high cholesterol followed by a triple bypass at about 50 and a couple of angioplasties since then. He is a saint when it comes to lifestyle changes and were it not for his seemingly inhuman willpower I doubt he would still be around today. He eats no fat and only fish and skinless chicken except for a rare special occasion. He does take Zocor and Niacin and keeps his cholesterol VERY low. We believe that this is probably a genetic trait since he lost his father to the same disease, but he also grew up in LA (Lower Alabama - Ozark, AL) with a milk cow in the front yard and bacon fat in all the fresh vegetables that they ate. We know better now.

I have multiple risk factors and take 10mg of Lipitor daily. On top of my genetic disposition I also have a kidney transplant and have to take medications that can increase cholesterol. Without Lipitor my cholesterol was around 220 and with it close to 140, and I have to admit my excercise regimine is lacking right now. I am going to start taking CoQ10 based on discussions here and elsewhere after consulting with my doctors. I don't notice any specific Lipitor side effects but then again I take a whole slew of stuff so it might be hard to discern what's doing what to me. Either way I'm still kickin'.
