The offer is for the rewards group within what amounts to HR. It would take a long time to get 7 figures without moving to a profit generating division. There the hours are longer and there is always an up or out mentality. Some of the traders are the ones making CEO level or better compensation packages of say up to 50 million.
For resume building, I think any good company is good. It really depends where you go afterwards. A future boss may or may not put value on that name. The biggest problem is that it is very easy to forget engineering if you don’t practice it in some form. So if you go to a financial firm and lose the job, you now have no job and no skill.
It is also an interesting time since many companies are about to see most of the management retire in 5-10 years. This makes the opportunities wide open even in a large company like Exxon.
