I think JohnK presents a very good argument for Goldman. As I understand it, you will work long, difficult hours, but you are young and it is an excellent opportunity. As John says, it will be an accomplishment that futures employers will be very interested in, as well as, I think, an interesting life experience. Note though, that many young analysts are let go after a couple of years. This isn’t a mark against them, and is really a good opportunity to pursue other interests, other companies, or grad school.
My company does some research for Goldman and (admittedly a bit to my surprise) they are great to work with; very professional and decisive. One gets the strong impression that there is less corporate BS there than most companies.
I guess I would have two caveats about Goldman in my mind. First, if you prefer a more laid back type job or are not a highly motivated type-A kind of guy, you might not be as happy there. Second, if you do want to make a career in hardcore engineering, it may not be the best choice.
Just my 2 cents from someone without a ton of work experience.
