Nothing was meant negative regarding NC drivers.... I tried to word my posting carefully so as to not offend. I apologize if I failed. I was simply commenting on how similar road conditions are perceived and accomodated in vastly different ways in different parts of the country. The Raleigh area probably only gets 1 or 2 days per year of these types of driving condition, whereas I have to suffer through more than 4 months of it each year.
You are correct in that a rush hour snowfall causes all kinds of problems up north too. I suspect that our road crews don't even venture onto the roads during rush hour, be it morning or evening. In my hour long drive yesterday I only saw one Salt Truck on the road scraping or salting.
I am also confident that the different weather conditions dictate what kind and how much equipment is available to clear the roads. We are forced to spend massive amounts of our highway dollars for Salt Trucks which are used only a few months each year. Not to mention the amount of money spent repairing our roads from the damage inflicted by the salt itself.
And yes, the superior winter driving skills of most Northeners are merely exagerations. You would be surprised at how many SUV's and 4x4 pick-ups are belly up in the ditch after every storm. Driven(?) there by people who supposedly know how to drive in the snow.
Is it true that Cary is an acronym for Crazy A**ed Relocated Yankees?
