Are you primarily in an urban/suburban area with street lights?
On unlit roads, low beam lights are totally inadequate at anything over 40 mph. And on highways low beams simply don't give enough light, and I have excellent night vision.
In a rural area (like where I live), high beams are essential. Deer, coyotes, coons, porcupines, etc., are always dashing across the road. High beams give you a lot more warning time going the posted speed, say 50, on a dark road thru the woods. In Maine, where we go in summer, driving without high beams at night is a great way to have a close encounter with a moose.
