Hey Scott,

I've got exactly the same car as your 9-3. I like the foglights, but only in specific situations.

The most common use for me is on snowpacked roads. The fogs light up the sides of the road, which helps me see where the edges of the road are. They also light up the foreground, which shows me the texture of the snow. That gives me some idea of how traction conditions are changing, so I know whether to slow down, and how the car will react to steering and braking inputs. I'm guessing they may also help compensate for my pupils contracting because of all the white around me. This may all be irrelevant in the part of the country where you are :)

I also use them on dark, wet roads where the road edges are not well marked. Again, the point is to see the edges of the road, and maybe to compensate for the glare of oncoming headlights by adding more light in front of me. This doesn't allow me to drive at normal speeds, though; if I have to use the foglights, I know I should be driving much slower than usual.

I tried playing with my foglights on a foggy day here last week. They didn't seem to make any difference, but I could imagine that fogs alone might be better than headlights alone, if my car could do that.
