Sounds like the Driver Ed. course I took in High School.
Two things I carry with me today some 28 years later are "see the big picture" ahead of you (avoid focussing on little things for too long and tunnel vision) and always expect the worse from a situation and have in your mind a plan. It's automatic now.

Oh, and also, always glance in the rearview mirror whenever you brake.
