But without an "or" between inline and boxer, it sounded like one powerplant was being described, not two.
Space restrictions can be overcome depending on placement of the engine. Size of the engine width is limited to a degree, but obviously Subaru has a 2.5 liter turbo DOHC fitting between the steering wheels of an Impreza-based WRX STi (smaller than any 9-3 and 9-5 series) and a 3.0 liter 6 in the Outback. Porsche engines in the rear are against non-steering wheels so they can be tighter clearances. A 6 liter H-12 might be a different story.
The new Tribeca is using a boxer.
I have always been partial to the boxer layout.
