Used to be a coaster / braker.
These modern Saabs don't provide much engine braking just 1 gear lower IMO,
so wear and tear is minimal. Easy to do gently, as stated this put you in proper gear to be ready to go ( go -go).
Stopping I'll usually coast / brake from 3rd.
As far as saving fuel, who knows about fuel mixtures at different engine speeds / throttle positions?
Idle = rich correct?
But, stopping aint where the fun is at in these cars.
I try to avoid it!
