you'll want to find somebody who can teach you the right way to hold the instrument and the bow so you're not fighting the instrument.
If you've played other instruments and can read music, 1/3 of the battle is done already.
Another part of the battle is getting the instrument set up properly - playing a so-so instrument that has been set up well is a whole heck of a lot easier than playing one with a poor setup. Think of the $25 guitars with strings that are 1/4" above the frets and how discouraging it is to try to play one.
So tell me, how much do they charge for a violin at Target?
