LaPatrie, same company as Godin and Seagull Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Thu, 27 Oct 2005 10:15:12 In Reply to: You got a Larrivee then?, McTeague, Wed, 26 Oct 2005 20:01:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A Larrivee classic guitar is in a completely different league, lists for close to $3000! I wanted a guitar that I can abuse a bit, i.e. take it out of the house in the middle of winter to play at other's houses, lessons, etc., yet still give me a lot of what I was looking for. I am still cursing the day I left my old Guild acoustic in the car while at work on a below-zero day - permanent damage to the nitrocellulose lacquer finish - when I was taking finger picking lessons in the evening.
I wound up with the LaPatrie Etude, their least expensive model, dull satin finish (which supposedly allows it to sound better?), plywood mahogany back/sides, rosewood fingerboard, yet still has most of the features of their better guitars such as solid cedar top and truss-rod neck. The neck was a big deal, it is actually thinner than most of the classical guitars that I tried and has the ability to be adjusted - we have extreme climate changes in Chicago, temperature and humidity, my Guild needs seasonal adjustment.
Harp guitar - oh, my! Start him on the Baby Taylor M, I imagine that is why you got it, right? Looks like an old Gibson LG0.
