A few others have stressed finding good breeders, and it can't be stressed enough. There are too many breeders just looking for a $, don't care about the dogs or the breed.
Fostering/adopting might be a good route for you, but if you do end up looking at a purebred puppy, do your homework. Investigate the breeder thouroughly. DON'T buy at pet store. They are typically the worst of that breed.
If you find a breeder that will allow you to get the pup at 6 weeks, run away. Good breeders will keep then until at least 8 weeks. They need this time for proper behavior development.
Sorry for not addressing the hypoallergic question, I have no first-hand info. I'm guessing that there are no allergy-free breeds, but some certainly are hypoallergic.
