Don't take a job because of security. Don't take a job beacuse of the money. So what should you take the job for? Take a job that you will enjoy what you do, who you work with and location. Now I am not saying that money isn't a factor but don't let it be the basis for your decision. I am gussing that you are like me and don't have a family or home so job security really shouldn't be that big of a concern. There are plenty of jobs out there and as you have said you have two oppertunities already. I recently changed jobs, it took only four weeks from when I started looking to being offered a job.
My fist job was in Seattle for a company building parts for the aerospace industry. I took the job making a bit less than the goverment job that I had also been offered but there was greater variaty and profit sharing. I learned a great deal about manufaturing processes and tooling desing. Durring my 18 months there I recived two raise for a total increase of 14% over my base starting pay. I alos recieved an almost 30% of my anual salary bonus for profit sharing. The money ended up being very good. The people I worked with were great. The varriaty of work was divers and fast pase. The only down side was the amount of overtime which was uncompinsated and the weather. Seattle was not some place I enjoied living as it rained too much and never got hot.
I have now moved to Fresno CA and have been working for 3 months with a company that builds pumps. I have been enjoying the work getting to put alot of my analysis skills to work. The varriaty of work isn't as great. I have been recieving alot of great training and get to spend time researching which is great. though The people are good. The location is better as it doesn't rain and will get hot. Over all I have no complaints and have already recived a raise.
2-2.5 years of experince you can expect the upper 50's maybe more in some areas and maybe less in others.
Don't know a whole lot about General-Dynamics Electric Boat but it sounds pretty cool and if in a year or two it doesn't work out there are plenty of other places to go. But there is alot to be said about working with a good group of people and if you have liked doing what you have done for your internship it would be a good choice.
One last word of wisdom. Always ask for more after reciveing the offer, worst thing that will happen is they say no. I have done this with every job and end up with a couple thousnd more or a bit of vacation time to start off with.
Good Luck
