College Grad...Industry v. Government employment

Hey all,
-Well its about that time we're im almost finishing up my Engineering degree at College. Im trying to figure out this job stuff the best i can. Luckily I have some options. One of them being federal employment as a GS (civil Servant). Another being in industry at General Dynamics-Electric Boat (submarines). Now, the government job does offer good benefits, but im not sure they are as good as they once were, or as people would seem to think. The Industry job also offers good benefits, maybe, maybe not as good as the govt. As of now the biggest difference i can see (besides the pay) is job security. Working for the gov. will provide almost infinite job security. Another good thing about this job is that i have interned there for the last 2 years on summer and winter breaks. I know the people I'll be working with. I do feel some loyalty as well.
-Where am I going with this? Is it worth the cut in pay (possibly 30%) to work for the gov? It seems like after 2-2.5 years their numbers are more comparable to industry. What would a good engineer expect to make after 2-2.5 years of work(Bachelors Degree)?
-What are your opinions? Any experiences good/bad to elaborate on?
Thanks and sorry for making this so long.
-Nick
