...once I get this baby built up. Ok, so I bike everyday already, but I got this yesterday and it's purty!
On a serious bike-commuting note, watch the list of a man named craig and see if you can't find something in your area that's about the right size (and test ride it before buying it to make sure it feels good). It seems like a lot of folks buy a bike and it sits in their garage indefinitely collecting dust until they decide to sell it and you can get some good deals on new/lightly used bikes that way.
For a 10-ish mile commute, I'd look for an older road bike as they tend to have more comfortable geometry than newer true road bikes or look for a new touring bike. I like the option of drop bars on my commute, particularly if it gets windy...it's amazing how much difference a little added aerodynamics makes. Also, if you want front/rear racks and fenders, a touring bike is probably the way to go as they have a greater variety of attachment points on the frame and usually also have more clearance between the tires/frame so you have options for fenders.
