H*nda and T*y*ta build better appliances gauged in specific categories.
I firmly believe the combination SAAB has going for it is more difficult to measure or explain than what is tackled in any standard Consumer Reports category. And a college friend of mine with 2 warranty replacements for the tranny in his 2 yr old Acura might disagree with that point from the start.

I have never once smiled when I turned the ignition, not once in all the years of business and personal travel in any rental car I've driven the way I do when I turn the ignition in any one of the SAABs I've owned since I earned my license. SAAB as a brand earned by business over the years, and until something else captures my imagination the way the 88 900T, 92 900S, 97 9000 Aero, or 02 9-3 vert did, I intend to stick with Saab. I have also never felt as safe driving any other car as I do in my crashworthy SAABs, and I do occasionally worry about all the bad drivers in tanks out there when I'm on a business trip in a tinny-rental. These are all subjective thoughts. My greatest concern is that the automotive industry/corporate mindset geared toward aiming only for the lowest common denominator is here to stay.

If I opened an ice cream shop and had icy vanilla and french vanilla as the only flavors, I don't think I would stay open very long. There has been far too much unsafe, boring, hideiously ugly, low quality product coming out of the US automotive industry lately.

GM if you are listening, you've been building crap for too long and you need to stop and make some changes. That said, I'd vote for Fuji-Heavy to take on SAAB as its luxury-performance arm.

Wherever it goes, Let SAAB be SAAB.
