What I don't see in your nice explanation is the diminishing returns of torque and horsepower at 5000 and 5500 rpm respectively.
My get feeling is that shifting just beyond the drop in RPM for one gear to another at the maximum HP (which is beyond the maximum torque by 500 RPM) gives the best result).
Long story short, my hypothesis is that shifting at just under 6,000 RPM yelids better results than taking it to red-line (6,500) RPM.
