I would say that the 0-60 mph or 0-100kph time is the most important single parameter used to stratify a car's performance by the automotive press and public.
Yes, I'm a huge fan of Saab's mid range power. But I have to deal w/ metered freeway ramps all the time where you have to go from 0 to freeway speed.
From a marketing s point of view, its a hard sell when a garden variety Honda Accord V6 does better 0-60 and in gas mileage than a more expensive Saab V6.
