never said anyone was a dummie... but *all* of us are manipulated by advertising to a greater or lessor extent...

Ask someone if they'd rather have an Escalade or a Scion box or Honda enema, if they were given one. Ask someone if they'd rather have a quad cab (any US brand) V-8 truck or a four door sedan or a small(er) two door truck, if they were given any. Then ask then about the relative cost of ownership, fuel, registration, insurance, upkeep and why they chose what they did. Then do it for about 25 people. Oh, go ahead and put a "cross over" SUV in there too, a Mercedes, a couple of Japanese models of your choice... and THEN ask those that supersized if they mostly drive alone and if they *NEED* the capacity of their choice... Ask them what they drive now... Bet they majority already have a large vehicle, drive alone, and only use that supersize cability rarely.

You see it everyday on the road, one person behind the wheel of the "family" vehicle quad cab truck, SUV, cross over, or similar, really being used as a daily driver.

Next time you are at a stop light count the truck/suv/cross over group vs the car/wagon/small van group. The numbers are vastly different than 5, 10, and 15 years ago.

for the very few times I need to carry more than five adults, or haul something large, or tow my race car... I either rent or borrow and compensate the owner.

I am going to purchase a tow vehicle when I find the right one, used, and will use it to tow the race car and nothing else. Otherwise I don't have anything larger than a four door sedan or hatchback.

Ok, I have several of them... ha ha ha.

What do you have in your stable?
