Portability is nice. And addictive. My main computer is the MacBook, and we don't have a desktop computer at all. Set up a wireless net in your house and it just rocks.

For deals, consider a refurb from Apple. Full warranty, and you can get the AppleCare 3yr warranty as well. I'm on my second refurb MacBook. The first is the one my wife now uses at about 4 yrs old.

I highly recommend the AppleCare warranty, BTW. For the $300 or so it costs it is really worthwhile. My daughter twice dropped her MacBook at college, killing the hard drive and it was replaced free with the warranty. The first time they did the screen, too, as it tested out of spec.
