Pedestrian safety is important and of course far from 100% of accidents involving pedestrians are caused by pedestrian ignorance... but I still fail to see how a high nose/hood like on the NG9-5 is better for that sort of collision. Yes, it helps to have a few inches between the hood and the engine, but I still think it would be more advantageous to be hit in the legs and to land on top of the hood/windshield rather than creamed by the front of the car. Have you seen the hood on the Nissan GT-R that has explosive charges in the hood hinges sort of like our seatbelt pretensioners? They shoot the back of the hood up if you hit someone so there's some "padding." Numerous GT-R owners have been in MINOR rear-end collisions and gotten repair bills upwards of $10,000 to replace all that stuff.
