The local dealer here in Central Illinois has one 2009 left, a beautiful dark blue 9-3SS with 6 speed manual trans. Original sticker price...$36000, but for several weeks there's been a sale sign in the window for $25000. I've been eyeing it for some time as a possible replacement for my 2000 Viggen. So I decided it's time to try it out before someone else buys it and see what they'd trade for. Drove it and while out on the test drive the salesman (a good guy I've known for a while) discovered that the rebate (from GM, I guess) had been reduced from $10,000 to $4000, effective Feb 1st.!!!! The new "sale " price was now $31000! That kinda killed my enthusiasm, combined with the trade in value they quoted for my Viggen of $2300.

If I had liked the 2009 more I might have been able to "hammer out" a better deal. This 2009 9-3 was a very nice car...quiet & smooth and the dark blue a superb color. But...the car's "feel" (steering, clutch, shift, etc) seems to have been "numbed down"...a car that would be great for a cross country trip on the Interstate but somewhat lacking in that sporty feel that was characteristic of previous Saabs. And, of course, it doesn't have a hatchback! Perhaps that's Spyker/Saab's first chore...bring back the sporty feeling hatchback!
