Hi-
I have a 9000 and a 9-5. I have never owned a 9-3 so I cannot comment on those. I love the 9-5 and it still has a lot of SAAB blood, but no, the workmanship is not at the same quality as older SAABs.
First the seats: They are not as supportive, they are narrower and lacking side bolstering. Fewer panels of material make them look cheap.
The interior in general: Buick looking dash-especially the passenger side. Driver controls VERY cheap feeling. Annoying failure trends-SID and ACC displays, Rough fit and finish.
Engine: We all know that story: Too fussy for anyone but us die-hards to keep up with. PCV updates, head bolt re-tourque, Sludge inspections, synthetic oil only.
All that being said, the auto tranny is much better, the car is quieter, and it cruises down the highway at crazy speeds, and the gas mileage is pretty good.
I love it, just being honest about things.
Mike
