He is talking the company line, which is his job. Then again, service managers and writers don't like it when customers question their authority. They see forums (and the internet in general) as a threat because it means they may have to deal with customers who are better educated about service and repair issues. And that makes it harder for them to sell work that isn't necessarily needed.
Sure, some forums and plenty of stuff on the web can be wildly inaccurate, which is a legitimate complaint, but if a customer has done some research and found the same info on multiple sites, there may be something worth questioning.
In my experience, most service writers are drones who really don't know much about cars or car repair. So it's easy for them to feel threatened by a knowledgeable customer.
