Interesting that you mention Xerox. I make my living in the print industry and Xerox (along with Kodak, HP and others) happen to be clients.
Paper vs electronic media is to some extent, a generational thing. It will shift toward electronic, and we're seeing the early days of it, but print and paper will be around for a long time yet. There'll just be less of it. What is happening is that some types of printing are going to digital devices (computers, e-readers, etc.), but these electronic media are also driving new applications for printing. There are lots of examples of how this coexistence works, especially in marketing and the bills and statements industry.
Books are an especially fascinating topic. E-readers (Kindle, Nook, etc.) and the iPad offer a new way to read (and much more), but the reality is that they only touch a fraction of the potential market. Of course, that'll change over time.
Meanwhile, self-publishing of books is booming, and all those titles are printed. So are thousands of publishers' "back-list" titles that are low demand but can be printed on digital presses (from Xerox, Kodak, HP), even one copy of one book at a time. Some of these also reach Kindles, Nooks, iPads, etc., but most are printed.
Then there are photobooks, which are printed one at a time on digital presses, totally customized and amount to millions of pages a year and huge revenue to Xerox, HP and Kodak.
Some of print will definitely go away forever, but smearing ink on beaten wood pulp will go on for many more years.
