Beam-type wrenches are much more accurate than you know. Clamp the 1/2 inch drive stub in a vise, and hang a 100 lb weight at the one foot mark and watch how accurate they are. Click-type wrenches must be unloaded after every use, or else they fail to hold accuracy after 100 cycles.
As Bob S stated, torque is force through a distance. Period. Many manufacturers of aerospace parts have NIST calibrated beam torque wrenches,
or will have a NIST rated calibration shop adjust the wrench and drill a .050 pin in it so that the spring assembly can't squirm.
Have fun learning how to install a cylinder head.
