its obviously a marketing infomercial (and it is a little cheesy)... but you will note I placed very little emphasis on the comparison of the Nokian tires with other brands in the test (as noted previously, cherry picking is possible, as well as driver influence). What is interesting is the comparison between the unstudded Hakka5, the Hakka R, and the WR. Nokian has no reason to skew the tests between their own tires (if anything I would think they'd want the WR to look better than it did). The 3 are all aimed at different compromises. The WR in particular is widely praised on this bb and elsewhere as a great cold climate all season option by people used to a range of winter tires, yet clearly it does not perform as well on snow + ice as the dedicated snows. That's ok for it's market! All 3 regularly perform at the top of third party tire testing results (in the appropriate categories). Also note this is not old data, these are the most recent tire models being compared.

The tire rack test is no less an infomercial, as (from what I saw on youtube) it gives no indication of what tires are used, and it does it in an indoor skating rink that does not have nearly enough space to do a proper test (but has some marketing cache). Tire rack does not seem to compare Nokians because they don't sell them + it would not be in their self-interest.

I'm not necessarily trying to show Nokians are superior to Blizzaks or that the R will last longer (it probably won't). I am trying to show that they are comparable and both good (widely regarded as fact + supported with test data). Then I am comparing within the Nokian family, showing that the unstudded hakka 5's are superior in pure snow + (apparently) ice performance to the friction based R and WR, and then that the studded versions are better still and that that performance gap only increases with age (at least in my personal experience).

Of course you can still prefer to use all seasons, it might suit your climate + driving needs better (as we discussed), + I'm not trying to convince you to switch, but the data I've presented is not easy to successfully refute...

James...
