I'm currently driving a Subaru Outback (H6) and it's a very complicated car, every bit as much so as an Audi Quattro. And as a consequence it's not a cheap car to maintain, and they have their share of problems. I go on a website for Subarus similar (but nowhere near as good)to Saabnet and let me tell you, the days of simple, ultra reliable Japanese cars is long gone. Nearly everything I've done on this car has cost more than in would have on my old NG900 and I'm constantly amazed at how much parts cost on Subarus. Throw in the fact it's kind of a gas hog around town (15-16 in winter) and the longer I own it, the less I like it. If you absolutely have to have AWD they're still a better alternative than most, but a FWD Saab is a better choice in all but the most extreme situations.
