As a college professor, I'm often asked by students for advice. My answer is always this: "Someday you will be old, and you will find yourself looking back on your life saying 'I wish I....' Live your life so that the old you will have as few regrets as possible."

Now this one is a hard call. Will the old daughter regret having not traveled more or less than she will regret having taken care of the debts? Hard to know; but she should have a pretty good idea of herself, enough to predict.

From what I've seen of 25 years of college students, I would vote for travel now. Once they fall into the pattern--good job, property, relationships--they are generally very hesitant to get back out.
