with a mile long option list to bring you to $50+k if money is burning a hole in your pocket. The Caddy SRX is like that, and the X3 too ($36k starting price), as does GLK. Porsche is bringing "Cayenne Junior" here soon to hit that $35k target. $35k starting point is necessary to have the volume for amortizing model development; $15k options on top of that is a good way to capture deeper pockets without having to development yet another car, which would inevitably fall behind in time due to long development/amortization cycle necessitated by low volume; a la the old Mercedes GL class and Lexus GX and LX.
